My name is Alina.
For two years I lived in a typical house 10 minutes from
the Komsomolskaya square, Moscow. Last spring I was locked up like the rest of the world.
A kitchen, bed, deliveries, trips to the nearest store.

On one of these forays I noticed a strange object on the ground floor — a pine cone
on a white radiator. From this moment I started taking photographs of things that appeared
on the radiator.

The photos I made I posted on Instagram account @belayabatareya

In about a year I managed to gather a small collection of photographs. This collection forms the basis of the exhibition.

"White battery"

People have always changed things for things. Was it especially common in Russia in the early 90s? Now such an exchange is no longer a forced measure but a conscious choice of many people. People want to take care of the world outside their homes.

The white and wide radiator has become a natural space for the spontaneous circulation of things. On this peculiar counter, things that have become unnecessary, but still important for the owners, have a chance for another life.
The pandemic has deprived people of their usual means of communication: walks, meetings, places. People have found a way out — conversations, parties, work meetings, weddings online.

The battery is also a place of communication. It is a meeting place for different people of the one house who may not even have met each other. And yet communication happens because the “language” of the battery is universal.
Best of all, the battery is a place of joy and anticipation. Each time it is difficult to say with what she will surprise you today. Will it be a one and a half meter teddy bear or a couple of loaves of bread? Every time you enter or leave you can try to guess, place bets, leave or pick up something to yourself.

The exhibition took place on April 4, 2021.
By the evening of the same day, almost all of the photographs had been taken by the residents of the house and by the visitors of the exhibition.

The Village post, Russian famous lifestyle mag, collected about 3000 reactions and 50 comments, where people shared their stories about such spaces in their houses.

A resident of the house with the White Radiator posted in his Instagram account several stories that he was also always surprised at unusual objects. He documented the exhibition and what was left of it: some photographs disappeared from the wall, new things appeared on the radiator.
